Dewey Compton

Dewey is an educator and has been teaching for over 25 years. He started in 5th grade and now teaches video production at the high school level. He has a love and passion for watching quality films and finding the hidden Kingdom messages within. Driving home from a fly fishing trip from the Eastern Sierras, he got the idea of telling the story of Joseph and his brothers through a family of trout. This got him to take the bait, or fly rather, and hooked him into screenwriting. Helping his students over the years with developing ideas and stories to tell through video has given him lots of practice. Add that with his personal relationship with God and he is ready to unpack his identity as a prophetic story developer. Dewey leads our Bakersfield CA KWA Chapter and he is excited about what God wants to unleash in this chapter.

Laura Coppock

Laura Coppock lives with her husband Warren and their mixed-breed rescue pup, Riley, in sunny North Phoenix.  Their blended family includes three daughters, a son, and four grandchildren.  They share a love for travel, camping, hiking, stand-up paddleboarding, and bicycling.  Laura started writing early in life, writing poetry, prayers, and processing life’s struggles in her journals. Her high school English teacher encouraged her to join the school yearbook and newspaper staff to improve her writing skills. Laura served as a children’s ministry program coordinator for a large, inner-city church.  In addition to leading and training teaching teams of teen and adult volunteers, she also worked with creative teams to write age-appropriate weekend service scripts and dramatic sketches.  God used this appointment to demonstrate His love, His healing, and His promises to her on a personal level.  She adopted 2 Timothy 1:7 as her personal mantra.  Laura currently writes and edits for the start-up digital magazine HeartStance Magazine, dedicated to empowering women to live a life fully loved.  She also works as a public elementary school teacher at a Title IV school where she walks out her faith to help students see their potential, understand their worth, and feel hope for their future.

She lives in Southern Oregon with her husband Clay, her two children Ezra and Brielle, and their ever-faithful pets Jedi (Dog of the Dachshund kind) and Dragon (of the tabby cat variety).

Shelley Hickox

Shelley Hickox first discovered her passion to write when her 2nd-grade teacher assigned the class to write short stories and share on the “magic carpet.” This became her first captive audience and she hit the ground running, entertaining friends and family with stories ever since. This passion led her to obtain her B.A. in journalism and creative writing from Point Loma Nazarene University, graduating in 2009.

Since then, Shelley shifted from editorial and has found a niche for her copywriting skills in marketing; crafting engaging copy as a brand storyteller for many organizations. She is currently working on a YA urban fantasy novel and has been inspired by the likes of C.S. Lewis, J.K. Rowling, Veronica Roth, and Suzanne Collins. Shelley also enjoys writing songs, poetry and flash fiction. She discovered KWA at the inaugural Festival of Books at Liberty Station in 2017. It was a match made in heaven!

Rob Shield

Rob Shield.JPG

As a middle school teacher, Rob is disturbed with the worldview imposed on young people by the dominant culture. He didn’t embrace being a writer until 2015 while seeing God’s revelatory power capturing students’ imaginations through allegory.

He is currently working on a children’s story about growing into the big fish in a small, polluted pond. Through a series of adventures, the protagonist discovers that life grows meaningful and exciting when we sincerely ask the right questions.

Rob’s greatest desire is to ignite thoughts that stimulate a vision to be a world changer. No matter how inadequate young people may feel, they yearn to be released to greatness. This only happens when asking better questions about themselves and their purpose. Rob writes to release seekers, trusting God to reveal Himself. He prays that God will use his books to impact the trajectory of kids’ lives and legacy.
